Leave a margin of 1 inch on all 4 edges. For a business letter, set it out as follows:

(Indent first line of every paragraph approx. 3 characters.) Here, put
the body of the letter, in other words, say what you are writing about,
but go into some detail. If you are replying to a letter, here quote the
letter's date, reference number, subject, who signed it.
If your letter's subject has more than one part, use a paragraph for
every part. If it's a lengthy subject, try to avoid your letter's running
on to a second page. Summarise where possible, and invite the re-
cipient to phone you if he wants more information, or include a sep-
arate information sheet.
Final paragraph. Summarise what you have said above, and say
what should happen next. Is the subject closed? Do you want the
recipient to do something? Are you going to do something?

Well, that's it for a business letter layout, although you don't say what
kind of a letter you have in mind. As for what should be included in
letters, you'll have to get those from someone else. In a business letter, don't try to be "maty", don't use apostrophised words such as don't, won't, haven't. Spell them out in full. Don't use text-speak. Remember that the person who reads your letter may not be the person who can do what you want, so be clear about your reason for writing. Best of luck.
